joe morris at vdot tells us there was some emergency paving last night. we're talking about one lane of traffic about 30 feet long. that concrete patch they were trying to put over the roadway actually failed, and the surface started to break upon impact immediately. so this forced them to extend the emergency road work into this morning, into the morning rush. joe says we've lost the morning rush, and that's because they are going to be out there until 8:00 a.m. if there's any good news out of this, they have lifted the hov restrictions not only on 95 but through 95. i will tell you both of those lanes, those are stacked up as well. and drivers on the main road, they're mostly losing the right lane and the north center lane. so they're just squeezing by with one left lane. and we're talking maybe 45 to 50 minutes to make it from dumfries up to the occoquan. and then you'll get a little breathing room, and it's going to be stacked again from the springfield parkway over to 395, where danella has been reporting all morning there's been more problems to dea

news 4's megan mcgrath joins us from the cathedral with more. megan, good morning. >> good morning, eun. they do look a little like spiders, these engineers hanging from the buildings just like ropes. it's quite a sight to see. no doubt people are going to stop and take a look at it here today. this is the same team involved in the inspection of the washington monument. now they're moving on to the national cathedral. they started yesterday. take a look at this video. we're expecting them to be here later on this morning. basically, what they're doing is rappelling off the cathedral, taking a look stone by stone looking for cracks, loose mortar, any loose stones as a result of that earthquake back in august. there's a lot of damage, we already know, up at the pinnacles on the central tower. they're going to look at all the other areas, come up with a plan, and they'll have to repair it all. again, we're expecting them up here soon. back to you, eun. >> megan mcgrath live at the cathedral this morning. megan, thank you. >>> montgomery county poli

for now we've got a few high clouds drifting over us. no travel problems weather-wise on this friday morning. it's cold. you need to layer up. it's near freezing in western maryland, much of west virginia. down to the low and mid-30s around the shenandoah valley and blue ridge. closer to washington, mid-30s in montgomery county, near fairfax. washington and arlington counties near 40. there is that gorgeous eastern horizon. sunrise will be at 7:31. we'll have that sun in and out this morning. then clouding up this afternoon as highs climb into the low 50s. this evening cloudy. we'll be down into the 40s through the latter part of the evening, and then colder out of the mountains and after midnight tonight. there they could have the snow developing. and here locally, wet snow developing on saturday and a gusty wind too. afternoon highs with cold rain around the i-95 corridor and points east. low 40s. points west, where there could be accumulating snow, it will only be in the 30s throughout the day tomorrow. sunday sun returns. a cold day.
